Note from Julian:

Hi all,

Sorry that I did not make things clear enough in today's VTC.

I would like to summarize what I said today.

0. Radio purchase:

     a. Julian will push and make sure that NCHC accountants to wire

transfer the payment to Freewave

          within this week.

     b. Tim Meinke mentioned that Freewave will need about 2 weeks to

manufacture the radios.

     c. Inform Freewave to ship the radios overnight, so Tim can receive

the radios as soon as possible.

1. The wireless connectivity:

We did a lab testing connecting setup like below.

     <data logger> - <freewave radios> - <GSM modem> ... <telephone

line> - <modem> - <PC>

The connection is done. And now we can get the binary data dump

from data logger through such network setups

     in NCHC lab environment.

2. The software to parse the dumped binary data:

The software we developed needs the information of the DLD program

in the data logger. And since we have a

tight schedule here, we would like to have the exactly same DLD

program which will be programed in the data

logger on the buoy(YYL). Then once the binary parse software if

developed, we can just `plug-and-play' in the

YYL field trip in mid April.

Actually, Dr. Lai just sent me a mail after the VTC. Here's what we are going to do:

     a. Dr. Charles will send the DLD program in the meteorological

station data logger to NCHC.

     b. Hseu-Mei will send Dr. Lai the trout lake sample data, so maybe

Dr. Lai can try to program the

         data logger accordingly.

3. Q1 in the level-0 powerpoint diagram

     a. Julian talked to Dr. Wu who is the owner of the data logger in

the meteorological station before last VTC.

He agreed that we can connect this data logger to the Freewave

radio relay.

     b. Mr. Wang, who is the person in charge of downloading the data in this data logger would like to go with

us to physically connect the data logger to the relay radio.

4. Q2 in the level-1 powerpoint diagram

Once the data retrieval software mentioned in 1. and 2. is ready.

We will wrap it with a web interface, so persons who is interested(Dr. Charles and Dr. Lai) can access it through a web browser.
