Buoy:

-         Buoy parts have been ordered; everything with possible exception of Apprise TempLine thermistor chain will arrive by mid-April  (Charles Chiu)

o       Issue with thermister – top sensor is to be about .5 to 1 cm below water surface; Charles and Dr. Lai will figure out how to engineer this.  Tim Kratz clarified that exact depth is not too critical.  It should be within a few centimeters of the lake surface, if possible.

o       How to anchor buoy? Will try multiple anchors. Range of plus or minus 30 degrees (to keep solar panel facing the sun). Anchor lines go off at shallow direction.

o       When anchoring buoy, need to be sure that the instruments in the water don’t get tied up with anchors. (Keep anchor lines out of area directly beneath anchor lines.

Wireless communication:

-         Freewave radio tests showed that communication is possible from YYL to 17K met station and from met station to the AS Field Station.  Used omni directional antenna. Hand-set good inside park

-         Issue: coordinate with Charles for space for wireless

-         In AS field station there is a GSM radio/telephone; will try to amplify signal

-         Will try to connect met station to wireless system.  Charles and Fang-Pang to coordinate necessary permissions from AS personnel who run the met station.

Timing of UW trip:

-         Wisconsin group (probably Tim Kratz, Tim Meinke, Paul Hanson) will visit for about 1 week to help install buoy. Sometime around 17-24 April.  Dates are not yet certain.

-         If Apprise TempLine has not arrived UW team will either bring or send one to use temporarily.

-         TFRI will host logistics (Charles has a conference)

Students:

-         US graduate student (Matt Van de Bogert ) to visit Taiwan in July/August for approximately 6 weeks

-         Alan Lai visits Trout Lake in May or June  (exact timing and duration of trip have not yet been determined)

-         Host country will take care of local expenses

Database Activities:

-         Installed oracle data base at NCHC

o       Installing Database schema from NTL

o       Once schema set up – provide access to Longjiang

o       Will Dave Balsiger come in the first year?  (timing to be arranged between Dave and NCHC)

-         Schema done by 10 March (Hsiu Mei Chou)

o       With some sample data in data base (David will send some)

o       After schema complete, Longjiang will be given access to db to install webservice

-         Off-line conversation in San Diego

o       Longjiang will attempt to have web service (to database) completed by mid-March

o       Longjiang will contact Dave Balsiger to ensure NTL site accessible via web service

o       Longjiang will contact Paul Hanson about web-service / modeling interface

Project Webpage:

-         Dave Balsiger will be webmaster for English version (series of web pages with this )

o       Need content

o       Chinese Version (in TFRI/NCHC)

o       E-mail system

o       Will work on this after Dave returns from Finland in mid-March
